REPUBLIC ACT 8525 (Adopt-A-School Program)

Public schools need the support of diverse partners in fulfilling the basic education of the children, hence, school partnership focal persons of the Division of Malaybalay City are profoundly encourage to established a lasting and gratifying partnership with various school stakeholders.

It is essential to revisit and strengthened Republic Act 8525 in order to build and sustain a mutual connection between DepEd and partners, by providing a venue for the strong and dynamic private sectors to participate in nation-building through investments in the education of Filipino children.

Contained within the 10-Point Agenda of Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones is the necessity to intensify the Public-Private Partnership in the fulfillment of DepEd’s vision, mission and core values.

The Department of Education in collaboration with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) works together in order to grant incentives to the private partners of DepEd. The incentives are provided through the tax deduction (Gross Income) of the private companies, industries and private individuals who imparted their financial and or in-kind services to the public schools.

This provide opportunities for donor partners to apply for the availment of tax incentives or tax exemption arising from the partners’ expenses incurred in the program since such entitlement is permitted under Republic Act No. 8525 otherwise known as the Adopt-a-School Act of 1998 and of Revenue Regulations No. 10-2003.

DepEd private partners are welcome to avail the tax incentives as long as they meet the requirements. Partners can give their support packages through (a) infrastructure, physical facilities, furniture and real state (b) learning support (c) health and nutrition (d) reading program (e) technology support (f) direct assistance (g) training and development (h) assistive learning device for students with special needs (DepEd Order no.2, s. 2013).

As the door for the tax incentives availment is opened for Private Sector partners, DepEd is responsible for ensuring that all applications conform with the existing policies and that they are processed efficiently.

Linking the chain of partnership for our young achievers requires an extensive responsibility, given that, the future of the children depends on the actions we bequeath today.
