art workshop_AutoCollage_12_Images1The legendary artist Pablo Picasso believed that, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”

To keep the child’s heart for the art, the SPED Art Workshop was conducted on December 15-20 at Malaybalay City Central School SPED Center with the theme “ Every child is an art. Every child is an artist.”

The training catered to 40 pupils with special needs. Participants with varied disabilities were divided into five groups in a round robin style so as to really master all the skills. Furthermore, resource persons can have close and individualized supervision over the child’s performance.

Resource persons during the training included Jovane C. Legaspi for balloon twisting, Lani P. Montuya for hand puppet making, Edwin D. Cabase for clay molding, Mary Anne A. Roble and Lizly P. Ventura for toy making, Jhareen M. Natinga for hand painting, Katreena C. Calimpusan for mask making and Roselyn D. Dequito and Catherine B. Alaiza for headdress making.

Malaybalay City Local School Board funded the training materials and the honoraria of speakers. Dr. Ellen N. Delante, Division SPED Coordinator and Dr. Romil T. Jabonero, Elementary School Principal II of Malaybalay City Central School also supported and supervised the said art workshop.
