Combat Stress at Work

Everyone who has ever held a job, at some point, experienced the challenges of work-related stress. Even if you love what you do, it can still have stressful elements. This may be caused by uncontrollable situations and demands such as numerous deadlines and challenging obligations.

When work-stress becomes chronic, it can be very hazardous to both physical and mental health. With it, you will lose confidence and will become angry or irritable which will definitely affect your working relationship with your workmates. Some may develop anxiety, depression, sleeping problems, fatigue, trouble concentrating or lost interest in work. Uncontrolled stress may affect productivity at the workplace.

If stress in the work is interfering with your work performance, health or even your personal life, it is time to take action. Whatever you are in, there are a lot of ways you can do to reduce your over-all stress levels regain a sense of control at work.

Below are some helpful tips you may consider on fighting stress at work:

  1. Prioritize and organize tasks. We may have numerous tasks to accomplish and targets to meet for the day or week, but we can still manage that in a way that it cannot be stressful by setting priorities and being organized. Prioritize against your goal and consult with your superior. Make a to-do-list which can be encoded and saved in your computer desktop or written in the table calendar with corresponding deadlines to make sure tasks are being completed. Clean up your table and make a proper filing to avoid missing files.
  2. Build positive relationships with your workmates. Improving working relationships could be very helpful and lessens the chance of stressful working environment. Having able to talk to them can help you out to overcome that stress. Instead of burying your head in the Facebook or game applications during your lunch break, engage with co-workers and build a health relationship with them. They might not be able to solve your problem, at least they will be there to listen to you.
  3. Eliminate bad habits at work. Many us worsens stress by negative thoughts and behavior. Avoid the negativity and foster the positivity to avoid wasting your energy and loss of motivation. We do not need to be perfectionist; goals should be attainable and what is important is we do our best.
  4. Look for satisfaction and meaning in work. Having positive attitude towards your job can help you regain the sense of purpose and control. Focus on how you can contribute to your organization, help and inspire others. That way your work-related stressed can be combated.
