Kaamulan 2013 Drum and Lyre Competition Conducted

drum & lyreIn celebration of the Kaamulan Festival 2013, DepEd, Division of Malaybalay City in partnership with the Provincial Government of Bukidnon headed by Hon.  Gov. Alex P. Calingasan sponsored the 2013 Kaamulan Drum and Lyre Competition at the Provincial Capitol Grounds, Malaybalay City on February 22, 2013.

Despite the downpour, five (5) participating schools in the province and hundreds of spectators watched the competition. Three (3) groups vied for the trophy in the elementary category. Casisang Central School with Coslita K. Muring as School Head bagged the championship brought home the trophy and a cash prize of Eighteen Thousand Pesos (Php 18,000.00).  Best Band Major and Majorette were also given to them.

The Drum and Lyre Band of Sumpong Elementary School with School Head Virgilio R. Namoc, Sr. took the second spot with trophy and a cash of Fifteen Thousand Pesos (Php 15,000.00) and awarded Best in Costume. Manlamonay Elementary School of Don Carlos, Bukidnon with School Head Jose Llera ranked the third place of the said category.

Two (2) Drum and Lyre teams competed in the secondary category. Libona National High School of the Division of Bukidnon with school head Dr. Neil Improgo seized the championship for the second time with a prize of Twenty Five Thousand pesos (Php 25,000.00) and trophy. They also got the Best in Band majorette award. Bukidnon National High School with Pariso L. Orong as School Head landed second place with Twenty Thousand Pesos (Php 18,000.00) cash and trophy .The group grabbed the Best in costume and Best Band Major awards.

 The Board of Judges was chaired by Dr. Raymund S. Antolo, EPS II  DepEd, Region X.,  Johnny Redondo, EPS I, Division of Misamis Oriental and  Isabel I. Casilang, EPS I  Division of Valencia City. The over-all activity was made possible with the Schools Division Superintendent of Malaybalay City Edilberto L. Oplenaria being the chairman of the 2013 Drum and Lyre Competition of the Kaamulan Festival.  The Smart Communication/Talk ‘N Text also supported the activity by giving Sims, ID slings and ball pens to all the winners.
